Hooded towel/robe for toddler

My daughter is 2 and has outgrown her baby hooded towels, so we’ve been using regular towels for bath time.  I’ve been wanting to find some sort of robe for her because I want to be able to just take her out of the bath and put her on the floor and send her off while I clean up from bath.  Instead I’ve been wrapping her up and taking her onto my bed and then getting her dressed right away.  So I decided to design a bath “poncho” of sorts that can be used after bath and at the beach and pool.  Of course it needed to be cute too!  I purposely made it big on her so it can last a couple of years and easily be put on and go over her head.

BTW, she loved it so much, she had a mini-tantrum when I tried to take it off her.  She kept running around flapping her arms up and down.  Shen’s really into purple these days

Fabric journal cover

I love journaling…..but I only like to journal when my journal is pretty……and I have a good pen.  I sound so high maintenance.

Anyhoo, this solved my conundrum.

I used my silhouette sd to cut out the flower.  Its actually a satin material and is shiny…..you just can’t tell based on the pic.  Love it!

I-pad case

I sat down and figured out how to make this yesterday.  Its fleece lined and secured with velcro (I tried using magnets, but it didn’t really work).  I love it!  The colors makes me want to carry it around just for fun.

Easy and cheap wall decor

Again, we are renters and I don’t like spending a lot of money to decorate a rental….but I also don’t like starring at huge blank walls.  We had one of those in our stairway going to our upstairs.  It even had a hole and a big hook where the previous tenants had something hanging….so it was like a nice reminder every time I went up and down the stairs that we needed something there.   I saw this idea on pinterest.  I went to home depot and got my wood cut…..unfortunately he didn’t cut them incredibly even.  So I’m going for a more abstract look, since they wouldn’t line up correct.  I attached them to my wall using adhesive backed velcro, so I didn’t have to make any holes. I already had the scrapbook paper and paint, etc. , so all together it cost me $10 for the wood.

Re-vamp a glass table

When we moved into this new house we needed a little table to fit in our kitchen nook.  I looked on Craigslist for weeks and couldn’t find one so finally I caved and we went to Ikea and bought the cheapest one…..therefore the ugliest one.  I’m not a huge fan of glass tables……but I’m also cheap so I get what I pay for..right?  Anyways, because its glass, my daughter could see her feet under the table and kept kicking the top from underneath, so I thought what if I just put something to block her view?  Of course I wasn’t patient enough to pick the perfect fabric, I ended up using something I had.  I just modge podged it on and wha-la!  I have intentions of taking it off and putting on a different pattern….maybe something with a brown pattern on it.  Like one of these.

Table runner

I made this table runner in a flurry on the day before Thanksgiving last year, therefore it wasn’t the greatest success.  Of course I didn’t have enough fabric so I tried to just make it work.  I should go back and try and fix it…..or just make a new one…..but I have too many other projects calling my name.  Ah well, it works for right now.

Easy way to display kid’s art

I saw this at Penny Carnival  and thought it would be a great way to do something to the blank wall in Lily’s play space and then also to display all of the art and crafts she brings home from school.  I went to Home Depot and found the lightest piece of wood.  Its 1.5 x 10 ft.  I painted it and then attached it to the wall using the 3 M Command  refill strips.  We are renters and I didn’t want to make a bunch of holes in the wall.   So far its been super handy to be able to come home and hang up all of her school work and it adds some color to the room.

DIY fabric bookshelves

I saw this post about how to make these……and I had to do it immediately (that’s part of my addiction).  Sometimes I do things before actually really thinking things through…..and then they don’t turn out as well.  I followed most of her instructions, except I couldn’t find double curtain rod brackets at the time, so I used the cheap ones from Home depot.  NOTE:  these do not work well, they don’t allow a thick book to go between them.  I later found the right ones at Ikea for $3.99 and then bought the wooden dowels to hold the sling.  I have yet to switch them (the picture shows the ones not to use).

I’ll also had the great idea of putting the ABCs on them since Lily loves her ABCs.  I used my silhouette machine to cut them out and they looked awesome but then they all wouldn’t fit on the fabric (aww nuts), so I had to finagle with them by cutting them down…..and now they don’t look as great.  They aren’t sewn on yet, so I’m actually thinking of taking them off and either leaving it plain or putting something else on there.  What do you think?

Re-do an old lamp

I should of taken a before picture….but I must of been too excited to bust out the red spray paint.  I got the lamp at Goodwill for $8 and it was brass and ugly.  I was wanting a very gender neutral look to Lily’s play area, but it was looking kinda drab so I wanted to add some bright color……that’s why I went for the bright….shiny…. red!  For the lampshade, I followed the instructions here.

Fabric flower headband with matching bracelet

I made this for my niece for her birthday.  But I needed a model to try them on….so I used Lily.  It looked so cute on.
